How to Earn Loyalty Points With American Airlines Vacations

Packed suitcases and a straw hat by a resort window, ready for a trip earning american airlines vacations loyalty points

Picture a family pricing out a week in Cancun. The flights and the resort cost roughly the same whether they book them separately or as one bundle, so the deciding factor becomes what they earn. Through December 31, 2026, the bundle wins by a wide margin, because American Airlines Vacations loyalty points are paying out at up to 11 per dollar under a promotion called MaximizeMiles.

The deal applies to packages bought on aavacations.com, and every dollar earns the same number of AAdvantage miles as it does Loyalty Points. A regular member without status jumps from 1 point per dollar to 5, while Executive Platinum members get 11. For anyone chasing status next year, that is one of the cheapest ways to pile up status-qualifying credit on a trip you were taking anyway.

Who can earn American Airlines Vacations loyalty points on this offer

To collect American Airlines Vacations loyalty points, you need an AAdvantage account, and so does anyone else on the booking who wants a cut. Enrollment is free on American’s AAdvantage sign-up page, and it takes a few minutes.

The timing rules are strict. You must purchase the package between July 1, 2026 and 11:59 p.m. Central on December 31, 2026. Travel has to begin after July 3, 2026 and wrap up by November 30, 2027. That gives you about two months left to book, but more than a year of travel dates to pick from.

There is no promo code, no blackout calendar, no minimum spend and no minimum stay. Any destination American Airlines Vacations sells qualifies.

How much each AAdvantage tier earns per dollar

Here is how American Airlines Vacations loyalty points under the promotion compare with the normal earning rate, according to the official MaximizeMiles offer page. Each figure is miles and Loyalty Points per dollar.

Status on the bookingNormal rateMaximizeMiles rate

Executive Platinum511

The biggest relative jump goes to members with no status at all, who now collect five times their usual haul. Elites see smaller gains over their standing rate, though an Executive Platinum still more than doubles.

How to book a package that triggers the bonus

  1. Make sure every traveler has an AAdvantage number before you start. Anyone without an account gets no share at all, and numbers can’t be added after booking.
  2. Go directly to aavacations.com. The offer applies only to bookings made on that site.
  3. Choose flights that are not Basic Economy. Those fares, and certain other airfares, are excluded from the offer.
  4. Enter each traveler’s AAdvantage number on the booking, with the highest-status member included.
  5. Pay for the package. If you cover part of it with miles, that slice earns nothing.
  6. Take the trip before November 30, 2027, then watch each account for the posted miles and Loyalty Points.

What a package actually earns: three examples

The math for American Airlines Vacations loyalty points runs on the total package price, minus taxes, fees and any portion paid with miles. The best status on the reservation sets the multiplier for everyone, and then the total is divided evenly by the number of travelers.

A couple with no status, $4,000 package. At 5 per dollar, the booking earns 20,000. Each person receives 10,000 miles and the same number of Loyalty Points.

Two friends, one with Gold, $4,000 package. Gold status lifts the whole reservation to 7 per dollar, or 28,000 in total. Split two ways, each friend collects 14,000, so the non-elite traveler earns 4,000 more than in the first example just by booking alongside a Gold member.

A family of three where one child has no account. This is the scenario American spells out in its own terms. If a package generates 9,000 miles and Loyalty Points, the total is divided by all three travelers. The two members get 3,000 each, and the third share simply disappears. It is not handed to the others.

That last point is the one most families miss. Earning American Airlines Vacations loyalty points for every person on the trip requires every person to be enrolled, kids included.

Limits and gotchas worth checking first

  • No cap. American sets no ceiling on American Airlines Vacations loyalty points per package, so a pricey multi-week trip earns in full.
  • Taxes and fees do not count. Your earning base can be noticeably lower than the checkout total, especially on trips with heavy taxes.
  • Basic Economy kills the bonus. Check the fare type before you pay, since a cheap package built on those fares earns none of the promotional rate.
  • The split is automatic. You cannot steer the full haul to the person closest to a status threshold. Each enrolled traveler gets an equal slice.
  • Terms can change. AA Vacations reserves the right to alter its mileage accrual plan at any time, so screenshot the offer page when you book.

Price-check the package against booking the same flights and hotel on your own. Extra American Airlines Vacations loyalty points only make sense if the bundle is close in cost, and a 5-per-dollar return does not rescue a package that runs several hundred dollars higher.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a promo code for American Airlines Vacations bonus miles?

No. The MaximizeMiles bonus applies automatically to eligible packages purchased on aavacations.com, as long as travelers add their AAdvantage numbers.

Can you use miles for American Airlines Vacations packages?

The offer terms exclude any mileage redemption from the earning base. Whatever part of a package you cover with miles earns no bonus miles or Loyalty Points.

How fast can you earn loyalty points with American Airlines Vacations?

It depends on the highest status on the booking. An Executive Platinum on a $5,000 package would generate 55,000 in total, shared equally among the travelers on the booking.

Should you book through AA Vacations before December 31?

If you already plan a package-style trip in the next year and the bundle price is competitive, buying it before the deadline is an easy way to bank American Airlines Vacations loyalty points toward status. Travelers who prefer to piece trips together, or who would end up in Basic Economy, can skip it. Enroll everyone first, because an unregistered traveler’s share is gone for good.
