One Key Platinum Benefits, Explained: CLEAR, Lounges and 3% Back

Empty lounge armchair by a runway window with a passport and coffee, a scene tied to one key platinum benefits

A year ago, reaching the top of Expedia’s loyalty ladder did not change much. Platinum members earned the same 2% in OneKeyCash on hotels and rentals as Silver and Gold, so the extra trips mostly bought bragging rights. That gap has now opened up, and the one key platinum benefits list is long enough to be worth a closer look.

The top tier now pairs a higher earning rate with a $129 CLEAR+ membership, airport lounge passes when a flight runs late, and automatic fare tracking on eligible flights. A few of them reach Gold as well, which shapes how hard to push next year.

The short answer on one key platinum benefits

Platinum is the only tier with all five of the perks below. Three are confirmed on Expedia’s own pages, and the other two come from the program terms as reported this week.

  1. 3% back in OneKeyCash on bookings other than airfare, up from 2%.
  2. CLEAR+ for $129 a year instead of the $219 list price, if you have never held CLEAR+ before.
  3. A cheaper CLEAR bundle with Concierge, priced at $199 a year for Platinum versus $249 for Silver and Gold.
  4. A lounge pass after a 90-minute delay on registered flights booked through Expedia.
  5. Price Drop Protection on select flights booked in the Expedia app.

How you qualify for one key platinum benefits

One Key covers Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo. You earn OneKeyCash, a dollar-based credit, and climb tiers by counting trip elements each calendar year. According to View from the Wing, Silver takes 5 of them, Gold takes 15 and Platinum takes 30.

The same report details the earning split in place since July 28: Blue fell to 1% on non-airfare bookings, Silver and Gold held at 2%, and Platinum rose to 3%. Standalone flights no longer earn, though they still count toward status.

There is a shortcut. The Wells Fargo One Key+ card ($99 annual fee) gives the primary cardholder automatic Gold and moves you to Platinum once net purchases reach $30,000 within one calendar year. Our One Key+ card review covers the rest of that card.

The CLEAR discount, by the numbers

On Expedia’s CLEAR offer page, Platinum pays $129 against a $219 list price, a $90 saving and, for many travelers, the most useful of the one key platinum benefits. Gold and Silver pay $179 and Blue pays $209. Only first-time CLEAR+ enrollees qualify, one per person, and you must be signed in to One Key.

Lounge access when your flight slips

This is a pilot for Gold and Platinum members that runs from September 30, 2026 to December 31, 2027. The flight has to be booked through Expedia and registered at least 24 hours ahead of departure, and some airlines are left out. A delay of 90 minutes or longer earns a pass to a participating LoungeKey lounge or airport experience. Where no such spot exists, each traveler gets $20 in OneKeyCash.

Why Expedia is reshaping its tiers

Read together, the changes shift value from occasional bookers to frequent ones. Halving Blue earnings while adding a point at the top is a clear signal, and perks like discounted CLEAR cost Expedia far less than higher cash back for everyone.

What Platinum status means for your OneKeyCash

Of all the one key platinum benefits, the earning bump is the easiest to measure. Spend $2,000 on hotel stays booked through Expedia in a year and Gold returns $40 in OneKeyCash, while Platinum returns $60. The CLEAR saving over Gold, $50 in year one, is bigger than that $20.

Price Drop Protection adds modest upside. Expedia rechecks the exact flight every 24 hours until departure and credits the difference once everyone on the booking finishes the trip. Only one award is paid per booking, and the Price Drop Protection terms exclude package and Member Prices.

Common misconceptions about one key platinum benefits

  • Price drops are refunds. They are not. The difference arrives as OneKeyCash, which has no cash value and only works on Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo.
  • Existing CLEAR members can switch to the lower rate. The pricing is limited to first-time enrollees, so a current CLEAR+ member cannot use it to cut a renewal bill.
  • The CLEAR price is locked for good. It renews at the discounted rate for whatever tier you hold at renewal. If your One Key membership ends, CLEAR+ renews at its standard rate.

Many readers also assume one key platinum benefits extend to family on the CLEAR side. Family or friend add-ons renew at full price after the first term, billed to the primary member. Expedia has not said whether the delay lounge pilot will continue past 2027.

Frequently asked questions

How many trips do you need for One Key Platinum?

Platinum takes 30 qualifying trip elements in a calendar year, as reported. A One Key+ cardholder can also reach it by putting $30,000 in net purchases on the card in a calendar year.

Do standalone flights count toward One Key status?

Yes. A flight booked on its own no longer earns OneKeyCash, but it still counts as a trip element toward your tier.

Is one key platinum worth chasing in 2027?

If you already log 30 or more trip elements a year through Expedia, or already spend heavily on a One Key+ card, the one key platinum benefits now pay for real things you would buy anyway, CLEAR first among them. Frequent flyers at Gold already get the lounge pilot and fare tracking, so the jump is mostly about CLEAR and one extra point. Casual Blue members are the ones losing ground. Status is only worth the chase when the trips were already on your calendar.
