Virgin Atlantic Economy Delight: What You Get and Is It Worth It?

Updated 21 September 2026. Fare details below were checked against Virgin Atlantic’s Economy and seating pages on this date. Fares and inclusions change, so confirm what your fare includes at checkout.

Virgin Atlantic sells economy in three versions: Economy Light, Economy Classic and Economy Delight. Delight is the top tier, and the question most people have is simple: what does the extra money actually buy? The short answer is legroom and a smoother trip through the airport, not a better meal or a wider seat. This guide covers exactly what each fare includes, where the Delight seats are on each aircraft, and who should pay for it.

The key point is what is not on that list. Delight does not come with a wider seat, a different menu or extra drinks. Virgin’s own comparison shows the same meal service in all three fares. You are paying for about three extra inches of legroom, faster check-in and earlier boarding.

On seat selection, Virgin lets every economy passenger pick a standard seat free at check-in, which opens 24 hours before departure. Choosing earlier costs extra. Delight passengers are allocated seats in the extra-legroom section, so check Virgin’s current rules at booking if picking a specific seat early matters to you.

Where the Delight seats are

Delight seats sit at the front of the economy cabin, just behind Premium. The exact rows depend on the aircraft:

AircraftDelight seatsRows
Boeing 787-936Rows 46 to 51, in the window sections only (seats A-B-C and H-J-K). The middle block (D-F-G) in those rows is standard economy.
Airbus A350-100033 to 36, depending on versionStarting at row 54, just behind the exit row
Airbus A330-30036Rows 51 to 56. Virgin is retiring this aircraft by 2027.

Two practical notes. On the 787-9, a Delight booking does not guarantee a window or aisle; the Delight seats are in the side blocks, so you will be in an A-B-C or H-J-K seat, which includes middle seats B and J. Seat layouts can change, so check the seat map for your specific flight before you book.

Is Economy Delight worth it?

The price gap over Classic varies by route and date. Published fare comparisons have shown it anywhere from about $100 to $300 extra on a round trip, so the only reliable number is the one on your search. Use that figure against what you actually get:

  • Worth it if you are tall. Three inches of pitch is the difference between knees touching the seatback and not. On a 9 or 10 hour transatlantic flight that matters more than anything else in economy.
  • Worth it if you want overhead bin space. Priority boarding gets you on before most of economy, which helps if you are travelling with a carry-on only.
  • Worth it if you are chasing Flying Club status. Delight earns 50 tier points per flight, while the cheaper Classic booking classes and Light earn 25.
  • Not worth it if the gap to Premium is small. Premium adds a wider seat, more recline and a better meal. If Premium is only a little more than Delight on your dates, it is the better buy.
  • Not worth it for a short daytime hop or if you mainly want better food. The meal service is the same as Classic.

Booking tips

  • Book on Virgin’s own flight numbers. Delta’s agency guidance says Delight fares are not sold on Delta-marketed Virgin flights, so if you want Delight, search on virginatlantic.com.
  • Points bookings usually land in Classic. Virgin Points reward seats in economy have generally been issued in Classic rather than Delight, so if you are paying with points, check what the fare shows before you confirm.
  • Upgrades go up, not sideways. Classic and Delight tickets can be upgraded to a higher cabin with Virgin Points; Light cannot.
  • Check the aircraft. Virgin flies the 787-9, A350-1000, A330neo and A330-300 on long-haul routes, and the Delight rows differ on each. The A330-300 is leaving the fleet by 2027.

Virgin Atlantic has been a SkyTeam member since March 2023, so you can also earn and redeem with partners such as Delta and Air France-KLM. Just note that the partner may not sell every Virgin fare type.
