How to Complete the Hyatt Aeroplan Status Challenge in 90 Days

Your World of Hyatt tier can now help you on the plane, not just at the front desk. The hyatt aeroplan status challenge gives Explorist and Globalist members a 90-day window to turn Air Canada flying into Aeroplan elite status, and a Globalist can reach as high as Aeroplan 75K with 25,000 Status Qualifying Credits (SQC).

For travelers with paid Air Canada or Star Alliance trips already planned, the hyatt aeroplan status challenge is a shortcut worth timing well. Occasional flyers will get more from a separate fall promotion that adds Aeroplan points on top of Hyatt points.

Who qualifies for the hyatt aeroplan status challenge

Air Canada limits this offer to members who hold Explorist or Globalist status on the day they sign up. Discoverists and members without a Hyatt tier cannot register. You also need an Aeroplan account in good standing, linked to your World of Hyatt profile.

You are also shut out if you already hold equal or higher Aeroplan status from another source that stays valid through next calendar year.

Your Hyatt tier on registration day locks in your track. Here is how the two tracks compare.

Hyatt tier when you registerSQC needed in 90 daysAeroplan status earned
Explorist8,00025K
Globalist8,00025K
Globalist12,00035K
Globalist17,00050K
Globalist25,00075K

A common snag: an Explorist who hits Globalist halfway through the 90 days stays on the Explorist track. If you are close to Globalist, it can pay to requalify first and register afterward.

How to start the challenge, step by step

  1. Open or confirm both accounts. Joining World of Hyatt and Aeroplan costs nothing.
  2. Link Hyatt and Aeroplan. Do this from the Aeroplan section of your Hyatt profile. The first and last name on each account have to be identical, and neither account can already be tied to another profile.
  3. Sign in to World of Hyatt. Registration for the challenge runs through your Hyatt login.
  4. Register on the offer page. Hit Register and accept the terms. Hyatt’s Aeroplan partnership page points to the challenge details.
  5. Watch for the confirmation email. Aeroplan can take up to 48 hours to process the request, and your personal 90 days begin on that processing date, not the moment you click. The email lists your exact start and end dates.

Because the clock starts on processing, book your flights first and register a couple of days before the first departure. That way none of the 90 days is wasted on an empty calendar.

What the hyatt aeroplan status challenge costs in 90 days

Only flying counts, and only certain fares. According to Air Canada’s challenge terms, flights on Air Canada and its Express and Rouge brands qualify when booked in Economy Standard or a higher fare. Flex fares and higher earn 4 SQC per dollar, while Standard fares earn 2 SQC per dollar.

Star Alliance and select partner flights also count when Air Canada issues the ticket, which means a ticket number beginning with 014. Air Canada Vacations packages earn 1 SQC per dollar on the full package price, taxes and fees included.

Using those rates, here is the rough spend per target. Treat these as estimates.

  • 25K (8,000 SQC): about $2,000 on Flex fares, or about $4,000 on Standard fares.
  • 35K (12,000 SQC): about $3,000 on Flex, or $6,000 on Standard.
  • 50K (17,000 SQC): about $4,250 on Flex, or $8,500 on Standard.
  • 75K (25,000 SQC): about $6,250 on Flex, or $12,500 on Standard.

Seen that way, the hyatt aeroplan status challenge is a discount on the normal path to status rather than free status. It pays off when you were going to buy those tickets anyway, ideally in Flex fares where every dollar earns double.

Limits and gotchas to check before you register

Fares that earn nothing. Economy Basic tickets, Aeroplan award flights (Points + Cash included), unpublished, bulk, group and tour fares all fall outside the challenge. SQC from promotions or from non-flight activity is excluded too.

Departure dates, not posting dates. Every flight you count toward the hyatt aeroplan status challenge has to depart inside your 90 days. Air Canada then allows 120 days for those credits to post, and your new status can take up to 72 hours to show once you hit the target.

One shot a year. You can register for the hyatt aeroplan status challenge once per calendar year, and only again after your current window ends. If you reach the same or a higher Aeroplan tier some other way mid-challenge, you keep that status but are removed from the challenge for the rest of the year.

No penalty for falling short. Miss the target and your current Aeroplan status simply stays where it was.

Timing the payoff. Status earned stays active until January 31, two calendar years after the year you register. Air Canada’s own examples show a September 1, 2026 registration running to January 31, 2028, and a February 1, 2027 registration running to January 31, 2029. That second example is why starting the hyatt aeroplan status challenge this late in 2026 deserves a second thought: waiting until early 2027 buys roughly a year of extra status.

Stack it with the Hyatt Aeroplan dual-earning offer

Separately from the challenge, linked members can register on Hyatt’s dual-earning offer page between October 14 and November 11, 2026. Registered members earn 1.5 Aeroplan points per U.S. dollar on eligible rates for stays completed by February 14, 2027, on top of the usual 5 World of Hyatt base points per dollar (2.5 at Hyatt Studios).

The scale is modest: a $500 stay would add 750 Aeroplan points. These bonus points are not SQC, so they do nothing for a hyatt aeroplan status challenge target. They may need as long as 8 weeks to appear, and only your own room earns them.

Linked Hyatt elites, Discoverists included, also get a $20 CAD Air Canada flight credit each calendar year. Our guide on how to maximize Hyatt award redemptions shows where Hyatt points stretch furthest, and if you earn Chase points, see which Chase transfer partners feed both programs.

Hyatt Aeroplan status match questions

Is the Hyatt Aeroplan status challenge a status match?

No. Your Hyatt tier only gets you into the challenge. You still have to earn the required SQC on qualifying Air Canada or Air Canada-ticketed flights within 90 days.

Can you transfer Hyatt points to Aeroplan?

Yes. Every 2 Hyatt points become 1 Aeroplan point, the smallest conversion is 5,000 Hyatt points, and you do not need linked accounts to do it.

Can a Hyatt Discoverist do the Aeroplan challenge?

No. Only members holding Explorist or Globalist status on registration day can sign up, though linked Discoverists still get the yearly $20 CAD Air Canada flight credit.

Should Hyatt elites start the Aeroplan clock now or in January?

The hyatt aeroplan status challenge makes sense if you have at least $2,000 of Flex-fare Air Canada travel lined up in the next three months, and Globalists with bigger travel plans have the most to gain. If your trips fall early next year, registering in 2027 stretches the reward to January 2029. Infrequent flyers can skip the challenge and simply register for the dual-earning offer before November 11. Status you were going to fly for anyway is the only kind worth chasing.
