Is the Chase British Airways Card Worth It Before the 90K Offer Ends?

Hands holding a plain card and passport by a lounge window, weighing chase british airways card benefits before a flight

Chase will pull the current 90,000 Avios welcome offer on the British Airways Visa Signature card after October 28, 2026, which leaves only a few days to decide. The full list of Chase British Airways card benefits goes well beyond that bonus, but 90,000 Avios for $5,000 of spending in three months is the reason this card is suddenly worth a fresh look.

The annual fee is $95. Whether that fee pays for itself depends far more on how you fly than on the bonus, so here is the math, scenario by scenario.

What the 90,000 Avios offer asks of you

New cardholders need to put $5,000 on the card within three months of opening the account. Chase says the Avios can take six to eight weeks to show up after you meet the spend.

Hitting exactly $5,000 in regular spending at 1 Avios per dollar earns 5,000 base Avios on top of the 90,000 bonus, so you finish with at least 95,000 Avios. That works out to 19 Avios for each dollar of required spending, before any bonus categories.

There is one firm restriction. The bonus is off the table if you hold this card now, or if you earned a new cardmember bonus on it at any point in the past 24 months.

Chase British Airways card benefits after the bonus

Once the welcome Avios post, the Chase British Airways card benefits below decide whether the card earns a spot past year one. All of them come straight from Chase’s offer page.

The Reward Flight statement credit

Of all the Chase British Airways card benefits, this one does the most to offset the fee. Book a transatlantic award from the US on a flight British Airways operates, and Chase hands back $100 for each economy or premium economy booking and $200 for each business or first booking. You can collect up to three per calendar year, capped at $600. If you change a booking so it no longer qualifies, Chase can claw the credit back.

The Travel Together Ticket

Spend $30,000 on the card in a calendar year and you get a companion voucher. A second traveler rides along on a BA, Iberia or Aer Lingus Reward Flight without extra Avios, in any cabin, though the companion still owes the full taxes, fees and carrier charges. Fly alone and the same voucher halves the Avios you need instead. The voucher lasts two years, you must be one of the travelers, and both travelers must book together in the same cabin both ways.

Who comes out ahead

Transatlantic award bookers. One business class award on a BA-operated flight from the US triggers a $200 credit, which is already more than double the $95 fee. Even a single economy award returns $100, slightly more than the fee. For this group, the Chase British Airways card benefits cover the cost without touching the Avios at all.

Couples with heavy card spending. Putting $30,000 a year on one card is a big ask, but households that can do it get a companion seat on an award in any cabin. Keep in mind that the companion still pays every tax, fee and carrier charge on the ticket, so the seat is not free.

Paid BA flyers. The 10% discount works on new bookings paid in US dollars on British Airways’ own flights departing the US for London or points past it, for up to seven passengers plus you. You must be on the booking, and codeshares, franchise flights, seat fees and add-ons do not count.

Who should skip it

If you never plan to fly across the Atlantic on British Airways, the most valuable of the Chase British Airways card benefits is worth nothing to you, and 1 Avios per dollar on everyday purchases is a weak earn rate for a card you keep long term. In that case the bonus is the only real draw, and you would be paying $95 a year for little else.

Elite chasers should also note that nothing you earn on this card helps you reach or keep a tier in British Airways Club. If you would rather build a flexible points balance than a single airline currency, our look at Amex vs Chase as a travel currency covers that trade-off.

Running the numbers on the $95 fee

  • One economy award a year: $100 credit minus the $95 fee leaves you $5 ahead, plus 2,500 anniversary Avios.
  • One business award a year: $200 credit minus $95 leaves you $105 ahead, plus the anniversary Avios.
  • Three business awards a year: you hit the $600 cap, which is $505 more than the fee.
  • No BA awards at all: the Chase British Airways card benefits shrink to 2,500 anniversary Avios and no foreign transaction fees, all for $95.

We are not assigning a cash value to Avios here, since that depends on what you book. These Chase British Airways card benefits look strongest when Avios go toward oneworld awards, and Chase notes they can be redeemed on British Airways and its partner airlines to more than 900 destinations. Details that trip people up

  • You need a US address on your British Airways Club account to earn Avios with the card.
  • Avios stay alive only with Club account activity at least once every 36 months.
  • The Travel Together Ticket has no cash or Avios value and cannot be given away.
  • Phone bookings using the 10% discount carry a $25 per person processing fee.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Chase British Airways card have a foreign transaction fee?

No. Chase says the card charges no foreign transaction fees on purchases made abroad.

Do Avios from the card count toward British Airways status?

No. Chase states that card-earned Avios give no credit toward earning or holding a British Airways Club tier.

When does the 90,000 Avios offer end?

Chase lists October 28, 2026 as the end date. After that, new applicants get whatever offer replaces it.

Should you apply for the British Airways card before October 28?

Apply now if you can comfortably spend $5,000 in three months and expect at least one BA-operated transatlantic award a year, because the credit alone covers the fee and the Chase British Airways card benefits keep paying after the bonus lands. Skip it if you rarely cross the Atlantic or care more about earning BA status than Avios. A bonus this size is a fine reason to open a card, but the annual Reward Flight credit is the reason to keep it.
