IHG Credit Card Elite Status, Explained: Night Credits Now Stack

Until this month, the fine print on Chase’s IHG cards read as if you could collect night credits from just one card, however many you carried. That reading turned out to be wrong, and it changes the math on ihg credit card elite status for anyone holding two or more of these cards.

According to Frequent Miler, Chase confirmed that elite night credits from separate IHG cards add together, and the sentence suggesting a single cap has since been removed from the card terms. Pair the Premier Select with the Business card and you start each year with 35 elite night credits before any paid stay.

The short answer on ihg credit card elite status

Every card in the lineup shapes ihg credit card elite status in two ways: an automatic tier while the account stays open, and a fixed batch of elite night credits (ENCs) once a year.

The automatic tiers do not combine into something higher. The yearly credits do pile up across cards, and that is the change worth watching.

CardAnnual feeNight credits per yearAutomatic tierDiamond through spending
IHG One Rewards Credit Card$05Silver EliteNot listed
IHG One Rewards Premier$15015Gold Elite$40,000 in a year
IHG One Rewards Premier Select$35020Platinum Elite$25,000 in a year
IHG One Rewards Business$20015Platinum Elite$50,000 in a year, from 2027

How the night credits actually land in your account

The first batch arrives after you open the card, and Chase’s terms say each yearly batch reaches your IHG One Rewards balance no later than February 1. If you held a card before the October refresh, expect your first yearly deposit by February 1, 2027.

The three fee-paying cards also give 2 extra credits per $5,000 in purchases, plus 5 more once you pass $15,000 in a calendar year on the Premier or Premier Select, or $25,000 on the Business card.

Chase’s page for the no-fee card confirms these credits count toward both your elite tier and Milestone Rewards, so stacking helps ihg credit card elite status and the yearly prizes IHG hands out by night count.

Why the terms were rewritten

When the refreshed lineup and the new IHG One Rewards Premier Select card went live on October 1, each application page implied one fixed allowance no matter how many IHG cards you held. Chase later called that wording a mistake and pulled it, more than a week later.

Chase has not said why the restriction appeared, or whether stacking is locked in for future years. For now, the terms no longer forbid it.

What stacked credits mean for Milestone Rewards

This is where stacking turns ihg credit card elite status from a perk into a plan. Using the yearly credits and fees above:

  • Premier plus Business: 15 + 15 = 30 credits for $350 in combined fees.
  • Premier Select plus Premier: 20 + 15 = 35 credits for $500.
  • Premier Select plus Business: 20 + 15 = 35 credits for $550.
  • All three paid cards: 20 + 15 + 15 = 50 credits for $700.

Each combo clears the 20-night level, where one choice is a Confirmable Suite Upgrade, and the 30-night level, which offers 5,000 bonus points or two food and beverage rewards worth up to $20 each. Three cards reach 40 nights, where you pick two of 10,000 points, five food and beverage rewards, a Confirmable Suite Upgrade or an annual lounge membership.

Factor in the quarterly food and beverage vouchers too: $75 on the Premier Select and $25 each on the Premier and Business cards. For a regular IHG guest, those chip away at the fees in a way night credits cannot.

Common misconceptions about ihg credit card elite status

More cards means a higher automatic tier. It does not. Your card-based tier tops out at Platinum Elite unless you hit a card’s Diamond spending target.

The older IHG Select card counts. Chase lists night credits on the four current cards only. The legacy Select card, whose fee we covered when the IHG Select card fee doubled, is not one of them.

You can open the same card twice. Chase says the Premier Select is off limits if you already hold it or earned its new cardmember bonus in the past 24 months.

Credits boost this year’s ihg credit card elite status. For current cardholders the batch is due by February 1, 2027, so it shapes next year rather than 2026. For year-end stays, see our look at whether Dec. 31 stays count toward this year or next.

Frequently asked questions about IHG card status

What is the difference between the IHG Premier and Premier Select?

The Premier Select costs $350 a year and brings 20 night credits plus Platinum Elite, while the Premier costs $150 with 15 credits and Gold Elite. The Premier Select also pays a $75 quarterly food and beverage voucher instead of $25.

When do IHG credit card elite night credits post?

They post after you open the card and then by February 1 of each calendar year. Current cardholders should see their first yearly batch by February 1, 2027.

Is an IHG credit card worth it for elite status alone?

Not for the tier alone, since any single card grants it and more cards do not raise it. The case gets stronger if you stay with IHG often enough to use the night credits for Milestone Rewards and the quarterly vouchers.

Should you hold two IHG cards for the night credits?

If you already carry one fee-paying IHG card and spend a couple dozen nights a year at its hotels, a second card now earns its keep through stacked credits and the Milestone prizes that follow. If you stay only a few nights a year, one card covers your ihg credit card elite status needs and the extra fees buy little. Count your nights first, then count your cards.
